James “Butch” Sequeira, 72, of La Grande, passed away on Monday, January 21, 2019 at his residence. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Island City City Hall on Saturday, January 26, 2019 1:00-4:00pm.
Butch was born on August 24, 1947 in Oakland, California to James and Joan (Lopes) Sequeira. He was a long time La Grande resident, but he grew up and spent his young adult years in Northern California. He was married to Cyndy for 3 years but 22 years of courting preceded.
Butch was an avid fisherman and gambler. His time was spent in the mountains or around the card table and he lived by the book of hoyel. His love of football and horse racing was unparralled. Butch loved to dance and enjoyed all types of music. His best moments were the first cup of coffee in the morning, a plate of Linguica and eggs.
Butch is survived by his wife, Cynthia; children, Bryce Gilstrap of La Grande, OR, Cami Miller of La Grande, OR, Michael Sequeira of New York, NY, Amber Sequeira of Springfield, OR, Ashley Yates of Lake Oswego, OR Seneca Sequeira of Tri-Cities, WA and Shannel Sequeira of Valencia, CA and 18 grandchildren.
