Joshua “Josh” A. Chaffee, 37, of Elgin, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2019 at Kadlec Medical Center, Richland, WA. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Elgin Stampede Hall on Saturday, July 27, 2019 at 11:00am. Casual dress is preferred by the family.
Josh was born on June 30, 1982 in Hermiston, Oregon to Rodney and Gail (Chandler) Chaffee. While growing up he lived in Union, OR; Pinehurst, ID; Magna, UT; Prineville, OR. In his adult years, he lived in Hermosa, SD and Elgin, OR. He attended schools in Union, OR; Pinehurst, ID; Magna, UT; and Prineville High School. He loved baseball, football and skiing in grade school.
Josh worked as a carpenter and builder for several contractors in Northeast Oregon and with his friend Randy Burnett in South Dakota. He particularly enjoyed working on new or unique building sites. Broadening his knowledge and experience as a builder was always important to him. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially looking for mushrooms, hunting, fishing and camping. He also enjoyed going for a ride in the mountains looking at wildlife in the evenings and weekends. Josh always enjoyed a thrill, spending time skiing, riding ATV’s and snowmobiling at various times in his life. His best friend was his four-legged companion “Addy” who was always by his side.
Josh is survived by his parents, Rod Chaffee and Jill Parsons-Chaffee of Elgin; grandmother, Audrie Chandler of Elgin; Aunts and Uncles, Jean Heaton of Grants Pass, OR, Joan Hand of North Bend, OR, Ninna Chaffe of Elko, NV, Yvonne Chaffee of Grants Pass, OR, Robert Jr. and Debra (Chandler) Dyer of Elgin, OR, Lynda (Chandler) Dryer of Milton-Freewater, OR and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Gail (Chandler) Chaffee; grandparents, Derril Chandler, Ruth Chaffee, and William Chaffee; uncles, Ted Chaffee, Lee Chaffee, William “Bill” Chaffee, Floyd Chaffee and aunt, Sandra Chaffee.
