Marjorie Jane Harris, 97, of Elgin, passed away on Friday, January 18, 2019 at a local care facility in La Grande. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Grace Bible Church on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at 10:00am.
Marjorie was born on April 3, 1921, in Bend, Oregon to Samuel L. and Myrtle M. (Scoggin) Burgess. She resided in Shevlin Hixon Lumber Camp - Tumalo- Prineville, OR; Redmond, OR; Portland, OR; Milwaukie, OR; Oak Grove, OR; Clatskanie, OR; Astoria, OR; Elgin, OR and La Grande, OR. She attended schools in Shevlin and graduated from La Pine High School. She married her one true love, Omer W. Harris.
Marjorie was employed with Western Auto at Astoria and Clatskanie. She cooked at a restaurant in Clatskanie and she was the school cook at Oak Grove, OR. She raised cattle to feed the war effort at 3 Springs Ranch near Prineville. She enjoyed making quilts and lap robes and crocheted. She won numerous blue ribbons for county fair exhibits of quilts and plants. She was a fan of the Seattle Mariners. Marjorie was a member of the Rebekah Lodge, Baptist churches of Prineville and Milwaukee and Clackamas Park, Redmond. She was a leader in 4H sewing, and a member of the Kings Daughters at Hinson Baptist and Milwaukie Baptist churches. Her greatest achievement was raising her three children.
Marjorie is survived by her children; Paul L. Harris of Chino, CA, Mary J. Davidson (Jim) of Elgin, OR and Marjorie B. Hartman of Astoria, OR; sister, Rosanna Dubro of Burns, OR;13 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren and some great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Omer W. Harris; parents, Samuel and Myrtle Burgess; brothers, James and Charles; sister, Evelyn.
