Ralph Emil Simonson, 90, of Elgin, passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at his residence with his family by his side and beautiful music being played b his daughter, Melody. A Graveside Service will be held at the Elgin Highland Cemetery on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at 2:00pm. A potluck will be held at the Elgin Community Center at 2:30pm.
Ralph was born on October 12, 1928 in Oregon City, Oregon to Emil and Ethel (Jubb) Simonson. He resided in Seneca, OR; Smith River, CA; Gladstone, OR; Eagle Creek, OR; Alaska; Arizona and Elgin, OR since 1968. He attended Oregon City Schools. He married June Rose in 1949. They had three children. In 1987, he married Mavis Elling, who had three children.
Ralph was employed as a ship yard welder and was a logger for many years. He owned Eagle Creek Logging. Then he went on the adventure of being a gold miner in Alaska. He and Mavis were snowbirds, going to Arizona when they weren’t in Alaska. Ralph loved Nascar racing and won many car race trophies himself. He enjoyed playing cards, 4-wheeling, hunting, camping, and being with his family. He liked to watch the Seattle Seahawks and the Oregon Ducks. Ralph was an active member of the Imbler Christian Church.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Mavis; children, Judy Morton (Steve) of Union, OR, Terry Simonson (Jan) of Kennewick, WA, Melody Huitt (Jim) of Union, OR, Gary Martinson (Kathy) of Elgin, OR and Theresa Tishmack of La Grande, OR; 25 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Ethel; sister, Vina McArther; step-son, Verle Martinson and son-in-law, David Tishmack.
