Ronald Raymond Fischer, 52, of Elgin, passed away at Grande Ronde Hospital on Monday, September 10, 2012. His graveside services will be on Monday, September 17th, 11:00 am, at Indian Creek Cemetery, on the Fischer Ranch, off Dutton Road, in Elgin. A reception will follow at the home of Greg Fischer, 68879 Indian Creek Road, Elgin.
Ron was born July 24, 1960 in San Andreas, California to L.R.Wes and Janet (Ives) Fischer. He was raised and educated at Mokelumne Hill, California and Ione. In 1978 he attended Delta Community College in Stockton, California where he attended classes in writing, communication, and photography and videography. Several of his photographs were published. He also wrote several wonderful letters to the editor. In 1990 he moved to Elgin to be near his family. He won a pickup for one of his videos in 1995. He also won another award for a horse bucking video. Ron was widely known for his videography. He videoed the Elgin Stampede Rodeo and Parade for over 20 years. He also videoed Haines Rodeo. He videoed numerous weddings and events, but never charged for his services. He will be greatly missed.
Ron, known by his family and friends as "Yogi" or "the Bear", was always lending a helping hand to whoever needed it. He enjoyed horseback riding, spending time in the mountains, and all aspects of ranching.
Surviving are his parents L.R. Wes and Janet Fisher of Elgin, one brother Greg Fischer of Elgin, and two nephews Caleb and Clinton.
