Loveland’s Safe Ride Program

On July 17, 1997, Bret Marten, best friend of Kevin Loveland, died in an alcohol related automobile accident. From this tragic death, Loveland’s Safe Ride Program was born in honor of his best friend.

Loveland’s Safe Ride Program offers a free, safe ride home from major events in Union County where alcohol is served. The program has grown to include support from the Union County District Attorney’s office, Legacy Ford, Goss Motors, and Frontier Motors who provides up to four vehicles at our larger events.

Jerry Hopkins, lead driver and program coordinator has been with us from the very beginning. We owe a great deal of our success to Jerry. He has worked tirelessly to make sure this program continues to grow and our citizens take the ride instead of driving when they have been drinking.

Our goal was to someday open up the newspaper and see no DUI citations in Union County from New Year’s Eve celebrations. On New Year’s Day 2012, we reached that goal. Many thanks to the citizens of our community that have supported this extraordinary program by utilizing its service and thanks to all who have donated time and money to this lifesaving cause.
